This impressive furnace, the only remaining iron furnace structure in Illinois is on the National Register of Historic Places. The area around the furnace contains picnic pavilions & tables and restrooms. A trail winds along through the bottomlands along Big Creek & provides access to a few deep fishing holes. The drive to the furnace passes through some of the most dense & beautiful hardwood forest along the byway.
